Tips For RVing at Provincial & National Parks

Tips For RVing at Provincial & National Parks

Stunning scenery, unspoiled wilderness, and access to popular recreational areas — we’re spoiled with so many amazing provincial and national parks all across Canada to explore. Here is how to make the trip go smoothly.

Check the operating dates

Most park campgrounds run May to October; some stay open year round. Shoulder season camping can be a great way to enjoy a popular park without the summer crowds.

Reserve early

Popular campgrounds book fast. Parks Canada opens reservations for the coming season in March — set up your account before that so you’re not doing it on the day.

Work the first-come, first-served sites

Many parks keep non-reservable sites. To get one, arrive mid-week, or at least early in the day when other campers are checking out.

Verify RV accessibility

A remote campground may be vehicle-accessible without being RV-accessible — rough, narrow roads that are less than ideal to tow an RV along.

Prepare for limited hookups

Amenities vary a lot. Confirm the services and be prepared to camp off the grid when necessary.

Be wildlife aware

Keep the site clean so you aren’t attracting animals: food and garbage, food preparation tools, coolers, wrappers, recyclables, pet food bowls and anything scented all get put away.
